Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein Onn mentioned yesterday that the public demonstration against the “Allah” ruling at Kampung Baru mosque will be allowed to proceed. He added that there is a balance to address and if they do not allow it, emotions will run high. The police would only go in if things get out of hand.
When queried on why the police are allowing this protest whereas in the case of candle vigils, they (the police) go in very hard to disperse, harass, assault, intimidate and arrest harmless citizens, Hishammuddin explained that candles are very dangerous. These citizens could burn themselves because of the hot wax or the flame on the candles. “We initially tried blowing out the candles, but the ‘damn’ citizens kept lighting it up again – it was only after “Operasi Tiup” failed then we went in and arrested them. It must be noted that it was only done for their good and to protect them.”
How about the police delivering a “head lock” for silent protestors in Perak wearing black against the BN take-over of the government, that did not look like things got “out of hand” there. Hishammuddin said that these protestors must understand that black is not a very nice colour, everything black is associated with negativity, like “black sheep of the family”, “black September”, “black magic” etc. If the protestors were wearing white, the police would have done nothing at all against them.
