(TPT) – PENANG: Travellers at Penang International Airport witnessed a strange sight yesterday. A 28-year old pregnant woman had to be forcibly carried off a Tiger Airways airplane yesterday after refusing attempts by the crew to escort her out of the Airbus A320. It took four airline security personnel to carry the kicking and struggling mother-to-be out of the plane as flight passengers gawked at the spectacle.

Noriah Abdullah, who is nine-months pregnant with her first child, had ignored requests by the crew of flight TR 432 to leave the aircraft as air safety regulations did not permit her to travel in her advanced stage of pregnancy. 41-year old housewife Arlene Tan who witnessed the entire scene told police that Noriah had at first pleaded with the air stewardess saying that Tiger Airways will have the honour of having a baby named after them. Failing to persuade the air stewardess, she screamed at the top of her lungs, “My baby is going to be born on this plane and nobody is going to stop me!”

The Petai Times understands that Noriah had earlier told family and friends of her dream to become the first woman to give birth on Malaysia’s national budget carrier AirAsia. Friends of Noriah when contacted by TPT revealed that she had been visibly shattered at the news that another woman has since beaten her to it. A baby boy, Asia Liew Ya Hang, was born in an AirAsia plane on Oct 21 and named after the airline. ‘Ya Hang’ means ‘AirAsia’ in Mandarin.

The distraught Noriah has since threatened to take legal action against the airline. “Tiger Airways promises its customers a grrrreat flight but what I went through was not great at all! I am very disappointed and upset by this episode. I was planning to name my baby after Tiger Airways. He would have been my little ‘Harimau’”.
